SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes is a San Diego-based sports program serving athletes with developmental disabilities ages 5 through adult.

We exist to create enhanced opportunities for people with and without disabilities to interact and form lasting bonds of friendship through shared sports and recreational activities in their communities.

Fundraisers

S4EA 'Bunco' Fundraiser:

S4EA presents 'Bunco' on Friday, August 14th at S4EA/North Shores from 6-8pm. Tickets are $20 - which includes hors d'oeuvres, soft drinks and two rounds of tournament play. Prizes are given for most wins, most losses, and most Buncos. This is a unique fundraising adventure that is fun for all. Click here for Bunco Flyer/Registration Form. Click here for Bunco Rules. "A Taste 4 SPORTS" Fundraiser:

2014 camp

SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes hosted our 8th Annual “A Taste 4 SPORTS” gala fundraiser on Thursday, June 25th from 6-9pm at the San Diego Hall of Champions. S4EA honored 2014 Boston Marathon Winner, Meb Keflezighi, as our 'SPORTS Man of the Year'. “A Taste 4 SPORTS” included Master of Ceremonies Perette Godwin, music by the 'Steph Johnson Trio', a fabulous silent and live auction, raffle, food & drinks, and fun. Notable sports figures attending included NBA Hall of Fame player Bill Walton, special celebrity guest Mad Mike from MTV's "Pimp My Ride" & many more. Over 300 guests tasted food & drink from 25 restaurants, personal chefs, caterers, breweries & wineries. The 2015 “A Taste 4 SPORTS” raised over $55,000 to support our sports programs.

“Guacamole Bowl” Fundraiser:

2014 camp

The 12th Annual Law Enforcement Challenge “Guacamole Bowl” held February 21st at the Balboa Park Club was a great success. The Guacamole Bowl attracted more than 1,500 guests who tasted the guacamole from 20 teams & helped determine who made the best guacamole. The Guacamole Bowl made over $12,000 to benefit SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes. The Guacamole Bowl is co-sponsored by San Diego Park & Recreation-Therapeutic Recreation Services.

Congratulations to Hot Guac Cops-SDPD Western who won the coveted "Guacamole Bowl" Trophy as the best overall team.

S4EA Swim Meet: The next S4EA Swim Meet is scheduled for Saturday, August 22nd from 8am-1pm at St. Madeleine Sophie's Center.

S4EA Soccer & Golf Tournament: The S4EA Soccer & Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, August 30th from 9am-5pm at Morley Field in Balboa Park.

S4EA Softball & Tennis Tournament: The S4EA Softball & Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th from 9am-5pm at Morley Field in Balboa Park.

S4EA Cycling Meet: The S4EA Cycling Meet is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th from 10am-1pm at the Velodrome at Morley Field in Balboa Park.

S4EA Bocce & Flag Football Tournament: The S4EA Bocce & Flag Football Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, October 11 from 8:30am-4pm at La Jolla Country Day School. Thank you to La Jolla Country Day School for hosting the event, providing volunteers and lunch.

S4EA Bowling Tournament: The S4EA Bowling Tournament is Sunday, November 15th from 9am-4pm at the 32nd St. Naval Station.

SPORTS Oportunities

SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes offers 24 sports in 4 sports seasons. Sports include baseball, basketball, bocce, bowling, cross country & downhill skiing, cycling, figure & speed skating, flag football, floor hockey, golf, judo, sailing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, soccer, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and walking/exercise.

Athletes with developmental disabilities, families, friends & others can play and compete.

SPORTS Camps

Athletes can sign-up for SPORTS Camp Session #2 on August 7-9 at Wildwood Ranch in Ramona which will offer a general program of camp & sports activities as well as swimming and a zip line. Session #2 can accommodate athletes using wheelchairs. Athletes spend 2 nights in cabins and eat 6 camp meals under the guidance of camp counselors/chaperones. Persons with developmental disabilities, families, friends, volunteers, coaches, and supporters are all welcome to join S4EA at the SPORTS Camp.

The SPORTS Camp Registration Fee is $150 per session to help pay for lodging, meals, insurance, supplies, etc. Mail Fee and SPORTS Camp Registration Form as soon as possible to SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes (9575 Aero Drive Suite B, San Diego, CA 92123). SpokesWomen Ride to Benefit S4EA

Congratulations to the SpokesWomen, a 4 women cycling team, for competing in the Race Across the West and winning their division. The average age of the team is 60+. One of the riders, Dalana Pursel, has been a strong supporter of SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes (S4EA) since our inception 7+ years ago and helps run the Guacamole Bowl. The Race Across the West (RAW) is a 860 mile cycling race held in June starting in Oceanside and ending in Durango, Colorado. Proceeds from the Race Across the West by the SpokesWomen team benefit SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes.
