SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes is a San Diego-based sports program serving athletes with developmental disabilities ages 5 through adult.

We exist to create enhanced opportunities for people with and without disabilities to interact and form lasting bonds of friendship through shared sports and recreational activities in their communities.

"A Taste 4 SPORTS" Fundraiser:

2014 camp

SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes is hosting our 8th Annual “A Taste 4 SPORTS” gala fundraiser on Thursday, June 25th from 6-9pm at the San Diego Hall of Champions (2131 Pan American Plaza, SD 92101) in beautiful Balboa Park. S4EA will be honoring 2014 Boston Marathon Winner, Meb Keflezighi, as our 'SPORTS Man of the Year'. Click here for Meb Save the Date Flyer. “A Taste 4 SPORTS” includes Master of Ceremonies Perette Godwin, music by the 'Steph Johnson Trio', a fabulous silent and live auction, raffle, food & drinks, and fun. Notable sports figures expected to attend include Olympic track gold medalist Monique Henderson, NBA Hall of Fame player Bill Walton, special celebrity guest Mad Mike from MTV's "Pimp My Ride" & many more. Guests taste food & drink from over 20 restaurants, personal chefs, caterers & wineries. We expect the 2015 “A Taste 4 SPORTS” to raise over $50,000 to support our sports programs. “Guacamole Bowl” Fundraiser:

2014 camp

The 12th Annual Law Enforcement Challenge “Guacamole Bowl” held February 21st at the Balboa Park Club was a great success. The Guacamole Bowl attracted more than 1,500 guests who tasted the guacamole from 20 teams & helped determine who made the best guacamole. The Guacamole Bowl made over $12,000 to benefit SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes. The Guacamole Bowl is co-sponsored by San Diego Park & Recreation-Therapeutic Recreation Services.

Congratulations to Hot Guac Cops-SDPD Western who won the coveted "Guacamole Bowl" Trophy as the best overall team.

S4EA Floor Hockey Tournament: The S4EA Spring Floor Hockey Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, May 24th from 9am-5pm at Francis Parker School.

S4EA Swim Meet: The S4EA Swim Meets are scheduled for Saturday, June 20th & August 22nd from 8am-1pm at St. Madeleine Sophie's Center.

S4EA Soccer & Golf Tournament: The S4EA Soccer & Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, August 30th from 9am-5pm at Morley Field in Balboa Park.

S4EA Softball & Tennis Tournament: The S4EA Softball & Tennis Tournament is scheduled for Sunday, September 13th from 9am-5pm at Morley Field in Balboa Park.

SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes offers 24 sports in 4 sports seasons. Sports include baseball, basketball, bocce, bowling, cross country & downhill skiing, cycling, figure & speed skating, flag football, floor hockey, golf, judo, sailing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, soccer, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field, volleyball, and walking/exercise.

Athletes with developmental disabilities, families, friends & others can play and compete.

SPORTS Camps

80 athletes had a great time at SPORTS Camp Session #1 on May 15-17 at Wildwood Ranch in Ramona.

Athletes can sign-up for SPORTS Camp Session #2 on August 7-9 at Wildwood Ranch in Ramona which will offer a general program of camp & sports activities as well as swimming and a zip line. Session #2 can accommodate athletes using wheelchairs. Athletes spend 2 nights in cabins and eat 6 camp meals under the guidance of camp counselors/chaperones. Persons with developmental disabilities, families, friends, volunteers, coaches, and supporters are all welcome to join S4EA at the SPORTS Camp.

The SPORTS Camp Registration Fee is $150 per session to help pay for lodging, meals, insurance, supplies, etc. Mail Fee and SPORTS Camp Registration Form as soon as possible to SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes (9575 Aero Drive Suite B, San Diego, CA 92123). A deposit of $50 will reserve your spot in the SPORTS Camp. For more information, please call S4EA at (858)565-7432 or go to the S4EA website at www.s4ea.org.

SpokesWomen Ride to Benefit S4EA

SpokesWomen is a 4 women cycling team that will be competing in the Race Across the West. The average age of the team is 60+. One of the riders, Dalana Pursel, has been a strong supporter of SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes (S4EA) since our inception 7+ years ago and helps run the Guacamole Bowl. The Race Across the West (RAW) is a 860 mile cycling race to be held in June starting in Oceanside and ending in Durango, Colorado. Proceeds from the Race Across the West by the SpokesWomen team will benefit SPORTS for Exceptional Athletes.
